The Raman Research Institute was founded in 1948 by the Indian physicist and Nobel Laureate, Sir C V Raman, to continue his studies and basic research after he retired from the Indian Institute of Science. Sir C V Raman served as its director carrying on his personal research until his demise in 1970. It was funded personally by him and with donations from private sources. The Raman Research Institute is now an autonomous research institute engaged in research in basic sciences. In 1972, the RRI was restructured to become an aided autonomous research institute receiving funds from the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India.

Applications are invited for ONE post of RESEARCH ASSISTANT (RA) on a temporary basis for Science Communication and Outreach activities of the Institute. The position is for 1 year and may be extended up to a maximum of 2 years, with regular evaluation. First 6 months of appointment will be under probation. The incumbent will be part of a small team that oversees web content and periodic reporting on events, publications etc.; generates content for the same as well as biannual newsletters and annual reports.

The ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously and the development of high-quality reports within stipulated deadlines is essential. The details of the required qualifications and experience are given below:

Eligibility

Essential Qualification: Undergraduate in any area of Physical Sciences.

Desirable:
Postgraduate Degree/ PG Diploma in communications, journalism or public relations. General interest in scientific research with experience in science illustration.
Excellent written communication skills in English in science writing/ journalism. Proficiency in rewriting copy/editorial review to ensure quality and accuracy of written communications. Ability to distill complex ideas to the lay public/non-scientist. Video recording/editing. Expertise in handling social media. Relevant work experience supported by documentation and
testimonials.

The RA is expected to be able to generate:
I. Written content in the form of popular articles on recent research publications, events etc.
II. Video content – short form and long form videos communicating RRI research and other interesting activities that are part of day-to-day activities on campus.
III. Social media expertise: Help manage the Institute’s Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, WordPress and Instagram accounts
In the post Covid world the incumbent is also expected to help organise school student visits to campus on a regular basis as well as for special occasions like National Science Day. This job profile involves a lot of communication with scientists, Engineers and members of Administration.
The incumbent should have good interpersonal skills with a pleasant and vibrant personality.

Minimum Monthly Remuneration

A consolidated remuneration of Rs. 23,500/- with 24% HRA on the consolidated remuneration per month will be paid to the selected candidate
