Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), situated at Thiruvananthapuram is a Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. IIST functions as an autonomous body under the Department of Space, Government of India. The idea of such an institute was mooted keeping in mind the need for high quality manpower for the Indian Space Research Organization, one of world’s leading scientific organizations engaged in space research and space applications. The institute is the first of its kind in the country, to offer high quality education at the undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and post-doctoral levels on areas with special focus to space sciences, space technology and space applications.

Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) invites application for the following Junior Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow positions to work in the research projects

Position

  • Junior Research Fellow
    • JRF-01/2022 Probing the intergalactic and circumgalactic medium (DST-SERB Project)
    • JRF-02/2022 Effect of Variation in Biogas Fuel Composition on the Flame Stability and Pollutant Emissions Under Practically Relevant Flow Conditions (DST-SERB Project)
  • Senior Research Fellow
    • Spaceflight – induced changes in kidney stone formation in Drosophila melanogaster (Gaganyaan Project)

Eligibility

Junior Research Fellow JRF-01/2022 (i) M.Sc in Physics/ Astrophysics/ Astronomy/ Space Science. OR (ii) MS in Physics or equivalent. OR (iii) MS in Astronomy & Astrophysics. OR B.E / B.Tech / M.E / M.Tech degree in any branch. In addition, the candidate is recommended to have successfully completed a national eligibility test in (i) UGC-CSIR NET in Physical Sciences or (ii) GATE in Physics or (iii) JEST in Physics.

Junior Research Fellow JRF-02/2022 M.E/M.Tech or equivalent in Mechanical / Aerospace/ Chemical Engineering or equivalent with Gate Score. Desirable: – 1. Experience in research work of experimental nature as part of Master’s degree project. 2. Experience in any programming language.

Senior Research Fellow SRF-01/2022 M.Sc in Zoology / Genetics / Entomology / Molecular Biology / Biotechnology/ Biosciences or equivalent areas with minimum two years of research experience in handling and culturing of Drosophila melanogaster. Desirable:- Candidates should also have knowledge of Drosophila dissections, genetics and molecular Biology (RNA extraction and qRT-PCR). Ph.D candidates (thesis submitted) with molecular biology and microscopy knowledge are preferred

Minimum Monthly Remuneration

SRF-01/2022 Rs. 35,000/- + HRA
JRF-01/2022 Rs. 30,000/-
JRF-02/2022 Rs. 31,000/-
