Government of India founded the Central University of Tamil Nadu, along with eight other Central Universities, through an Act of Parliament in 2009. It is part of the greater role that the Central Government assumed in making higher education accessible to aspirants from the weaker sections of the society. With eight students in M.A. English Studies, the university started functioning from November 2009, at the Collectorate Annexe at Thiruvarur, 60 kilometers to the east of Thanjavur. But today the University sits astride a major tributary of the famous Cauvery river in the heart of the Delta seven kilometers to the north-west of Thiruvarur.

Applications are invited from interested candidates for the post of Junior Research Fellow (1 No.) at the Department of Geography, School of Earth Sciences, Central University of Tamil Nadu for a Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) funded collaborative Major Research Project under the scheme of Core Research grant (CRG) vide File No.CRG/2020/001373.

Project Title: Study of Spatio-Temporal Geomorphic and Land use Dynamics of the Cauvery Delta for Landscape and Environmental Management

Eligibility

Position: Junior Research Fellow
Essential Post Graduate in Earth Sciences / Geology / Geography or related disciplines with Qualifications: NET/GATE or equivalent qualification of any national exam

Nature of Work:
☛ Undertake extensive field surveys and prepare water/sediment samples for
scientific analysis (major, trace, REE, XRD, XRF, etc.) at National Laboratories
to assess 1) source, location, type, nature and quantum of nutrients and toxics from natural and anthropogenic sources, and 2) dynamics of textural parameters, magnetic susceptibility and geochemistry of bedload and suspended sediments and physico-chemistry of river water
☛ Assist the investigators in report preparation, data compilation / processing,
preparation of progress reports, international journal publications etc.

Minimum Monthly Remuneration

• Junior Research Fellow Rs. 31,000/- p.m. plus HRA as per the qualifications and CUTN regulations
