The University of Jammu and Kashmir was founded in the year 1948. In the year 1969 it was bifurcated into two full-fledged Universities: University of Kashmir at Srinagar and University of Jammu at Jammu. The University of Kashmir is situated at Hazratbal in Srinagar. It is flanked by the world famous Dal Lake on its eastern side and Nigeen Lake on the western side. The Main Campus of the University spread over 247 acres of land is divided into three parts – Hazratbal Campus, Naseem Bagh Campus and Mirza Bagh Campus (serving residential purpose). Description

The Department of Sociology is organizing a One Week Workshop on Research Methodology in Social Sciences (For M. Phil / Ph.D. Scholars) from September 01 to 07, 2021. The aim of the workshop is to explore different dimensions and paradigms of research and inculcate among the participants the ability to undertake independent research in a planned manner

Event Introduction

The workshop will focus on the theoretical and philosophical dimensions as well as rationale upon which social research needs to be based but also varied practical aspects of research that a researcher encounters during various stages of conducting research such as identifying research problem, proposal writing, literature review, selection of research methods, Data analysis, report writing, Writing articles based on research etc

Topics to be Covered

This programme will cover the following topics:
◆ Research Methodology; Theoretical and Philosophical Issues
◆ Types of Research and Research Design;
◆ Types of Data, Methods and Tools of Data Collection;
◆ Sampling and Statistical Tools;
◆ Statistical techniques and data analysis using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) package;
◆ Various Methods of Qualitative Research;
◆ Writing of Report, Research Paper and Monograph.

Who can Apply?

The workshop is meant for the candidates currently enrolled in Ph.D./
M.Phil programme in Sociology, Social Work, Political Science, History,
Economics, Psychology, Education or Religious Studies;

The selection shall be made on first-come-first-serve basis and number of
participants shall be limited to 40 only.
