The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram (IISER TVM) is dedicated to scientific research and science education of international standards. Traditionally, teaching has been segregated from research in undergraduate science curricula in our country. The IISERs were established by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to bridge this dichotomy. IISER TVM was founded in 2008. The institute aims to provide high quality education in modern science, integrating it with outstanding research at the undergraduate level itself, and to develop a spirit of enquiry cutting across disciplines. IISER TVM is an autonomous institution offering a five-year BS-MS programme in addition to iPh.D and Ph.D. programmes in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and inter-disciplinary areas.

Description

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram is one of the premier science education and research institutes established by the Government of India in 2008 to impart high-quality education integrated with outstanding research in modern science. The Institute invites applications for the following positions on contract basis.

Title of Project : CRISPR Crop Network: Targeted improvement of stress tolerance, nutritional quality and yield of crops by using genome editing”. Tenure of the post : Project duration is for 1 year and 4 months. Initial contract is for one year and extendable based on the performance of the candidate.

Eligibility

Senior Research Fellow Essential qualifications: Ph.D. in any area of biological/life sciences.
OR
Master degree in any area of biological/life sciences with 4 years/5 years of Bachelor’s degree.
OR
Candidates having postgraduate degree in Basic Sciences with 3 years Bachelor’s degree and 2 years Master degree should have qualified NET* or equivalent examination.
OR
The Master’s degree holders with the integrated degrees (5 years) like B.Tech & M.Tech with specialization in biological/life sciences NET* – As regards, NET examination, the candidate should have qualified any national level examination conducted by the Central Govt. Departments/agencies for admission to Ph.D. programme are considered as NET for the purpose of RA/SRF. The following are some of the NET examinations: CSIR-CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test. MHRD-Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering admission. DBT-Biotechnology Eligibility Test & Test conducted in Bioinformatics by Bioinformatics National Consortium. DAE-JEST & JGEEBILS, NBHM. ICMR-JRF Entrance Examination. ICAR-Test conducted by ICAR for admission to Ph.D. programme. DoP-GPAT.
Desirable qualifications: Candidate should be highly motivated to do basic research in biology. Academically excellent candidate with technical proficiency in recombinant DNA(rDNA) technology especially in cloning, designing and making gene constructs, growing and managing plants. Prior research experience in the above skill areas are preferable but not mandatory. This may be considered as a criteria for shortlisting if many applications are received.

Minimum Monthly Remuneration

• Rs. 31,000 +HRA as applicable.
