The Centre for Entrepreneurship Development at NIRD & PR has a mandate to work towards achieving rural development through entrepreneurship of rural youth through awareness, capacity building, hand-holding programmes and infusing improved technologies in the rural areas. The centre is poised to undertake training and capacity development programmes, policy oriented and action based research and work closely with agencies, departments and ministries working on promotion of rural entrepreneurship.

Event Introduction

Creation of jobs in massive number and ensuring higher productivity have been subjects of huge concern, especially in rural areas. A large portion of Indian economy operates in the informal sector with subsistence level of earnings and poor working conditions. Even though rural informal sector has been providing employment opportunities, the sector is suffering from low level of technology, limited access to inputs and credits, and an unfavourable market environment. To ensure employment generation at a rising levels of productivity, skill development of entrepreneurs and workers engaged therein will be crucial. In this context, the said training programme has been designed to equip and empower the rural informal entrepreneurs to upgrade their knowledge and approach to not only start a new sustainable entrepreneurial venture and/or scale up the existing ones, in order to leverage the local employment opportunities for the rural youth, women and marginalized communities.

The training programme will facilitate detail understanding on the informal enterprise sector and its various issues such as skill, technology, marketing, finance and so on. It will also improve our understanding on the role of formal institutions in supporting the informal enterprises to transcend to formal sector and expand their scale of operation and local employment. After the programme, the participants will be able to guide informal rural entrepreneurs to reap benefits from the formal institutions and grow their business. The training programme will also help in understanding various government schemes and policies towards skill development and employment generation in rural areas.

Training methods will comprise of online lectures, group discussions, and presentations. Presentations on good practices/ successful models will be imparted.

◆ To appraise the govt. policies and schemes towards enterprise development and skill promotion;
◆ To understand the linkage between vocational education and skill with enterprise growth and employment;
