IISERs were created through a proclamation of Ministry of Education, Government of India, to promote quality education and research in science and related areas. The first two IISERs (Pune and Kolkata) were established in 2006. This was followed by an Institute at Mohali (2007), Bhopal & Trivandrum (2008), Tirupati (2015), and Berhampur (2016). IISERs were incorporated as Institutions of National Importance under the umbrella of the NIT (Amendment) Act, 2012 (NIT Act 2007). The Act was further amended in 2014, entitled the NITSER ACT 2014. Each IISER is a degree-granting autonomous institute.

for the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences

Tenure: Initially for one year with the possibility of extension of another year based on the yearly performance of the IPDF.

Eligibility: The applicant should have a.Ph.D. Degree from recognized University /Institute in Atmospheric Sciences / Physics / Environmental Sciences / Chemical Engineering / Environmental Engineering /Any other related field. Preference will be given to the candidates with NET/GATE qualification.
Candidates who have completed their Ph.D. from IISER Bhopal are not allowed to apply for these IPDF positions.
Ph.D. scholars after submission of Thesis are also eligible to apply for Institute pDF posts. However, they have to submit the provisional /degree certificate within 6 months from the date of appointment as Institute PDF. If not submitted within the time limit, the appointment will stand cancelled or a decision will be taken in consultation with the thesis processing authority.
Minimum Monthly Remuneration
Institute Post-Doctoral Fellow (IPDF) Rs. 67,000/- per month + House Rent Allowance (as per Institute rules). However, the candidates who have submitted thesis and the award of PhD Degree / provisional degree is awaited, they will be paid reduced fellowship of Rs. 35,000/- per month plus HRA. On submission of PhD degree, full fellowship of Rs. 67,0001- plus HRA shall be restored effective from the date of award of PhD degree / provisional degree.
