IISERs were created through a proclamation of Ministry of Education, Government of India, to promote quality education and research in science and related areas. The first two IISERs (Pune and Kolkata) were established in 2006. This was followed by an Institute at Mohali (2007), Bhopal & Trivandrum (2008), Tirupati (2015), and Berhampur (2016). IISERs were incorporated as Institutions of National Importance under the umbrella of the NIT (Amendment) Act, 2012 (NIT Act 2007). The Act was further amended in 2014, entitled the NITSER ACT 2014. Each IISER is a degree-granting autonomous institute.

Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Invites Applications are invited for a Junior Research Fellow (JRF), awarded by Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) under the scheme of Start-up Research Grant (SRG), in the Department of Earth and environmental Sciences, IISER Bhopal, under the project titled ” Seismic anisotropy and attenuation models of the crust and lithospheric mantle for the Himalaya and Southern Tibet: Investigating Indian Plate dynamics across the Indian-Eurasian collision zone”.

Eligibility

Position: Junior Research Fellow
Essential Qualifications :

• Post Graduate Degree (M.Sc. (Tech)/ M.Sc. or equivalent) in Geophysics/Applied Geophyscs/Geology/Physics or related fields from a recognized university/Institute with a valid score in GATE/CSIR-NET. Candidates must have obtained at least 60% marks (or 6.5 Grade Point out of 10) (55% / 6 CGPA for SC/ST) in their master’s.
• Desirable:
• (a) Candidate with working knowledge in the field of crust and upper mantle structure, attenuation characteristics, modelling and Inversion, etc.
• (b) Knowledge of Python/MATLAB/Fortran or any other programming language.
• Job description: The JRF is expected to work on investigating structure, deformation and attenuation characteristics of the Indo-Eurasia collision zone.
• Tenure of Appointment: The appointment will be initially for one year from the date of his/her joining the Institute, which may be extended (for one more year) later/terminated earlier depending on the performance of the candidates.
• Age: Should not exceed 35 years as on 1st November 2023 with usual relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/ Differently abled and exceptional candidate(s) as per the Government norms.

Minimum Monthly Remuneration

Junior Research Fellow – Rs. 31,000/- + 16% HRA per month (Consolidated pay with no other allowances).
