The ICMR-National Institute of Epidemiology (ICMR-NIE) is a permanent premier institute of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) established on July 2, 1999 by merging the Central JALMA Institute for Leprosy (CJIL Field Unit), Avadi with the Institute for Research in Medical Statistics (IRMS), Chennai. The broad objectives of the Institute cover conducting epidemiological studies, development of human resources in epidemiology and bio-statistics, networking of the various ICMR and non-ICMR Institutes at the national level for epidemiological purposes, and consultancy. The Institute has the distinction of being the WHO Collaborating Centre for Leprosy Research and Epidemiology. The Institute carries out a variety of research activities, which include areas such as interventional studies, health systems research, evaluation of health schemes and disease control programmes, statistical methodology, epidemiological investigations and outbreak science.

Project Scientist – B (Medical) Essential Qualification
MBBS Degree with one year Research/Teaching experience.
OR
MD in PSM/Clinical Subjects from a recognized University
after MBBS
Desirable Qualification and Experience
☛ MPH
☛ Experience in working in community-based health research
☛ Training in spirometry testing
☛ Working knowledge in Computers.
☛ Able to speak in Tamil
☛ Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Project Staff Nurse Essential Qualification
Diploma in Nursing or Midwifery (GNM) or equivalent and registered nurse with any State Nursing Council
or
B.Sc. in Nursing
Desirable Qualification and Experience
☛ Experience in data collection in field-based health research surveys
☛ Experience in clinical examination
☛ Experience in blood and urine sample collection
☛ Experience in anthropometry data collection
☛ Experience in spirometry testing
☛ Knowledge of computer applications
Project Assistant (Field Investigator) Essential Qualification
Graduate in Social Sciences/Life Sciences from a recognized university with three years work experience from a recognized institution

Master’s degree in the relevant subject
Desirable Qualification and Experience
☛ Experience in conducting in field based health research
☛ Experience in anthropometric measurement
☛ Experience in coordinating the field team for data collection
☛ Knowledge of computer applications
☛ Experience in working as part of a research project team.
Project Technician III (Lab) Essential Qualification
12th pass in science subjects and two years Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technician (DMLT) or relevant subject.

One year Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technician (DMLT) plus one-year experience in a recognized organization or 2 years laboratory experience*.
*B.Sc Degree (relevant subjects – Medical Lab technology, microbiology, and biochemistry) shall be treated as 3 years’ experience.
Desirable qualification
(i). Experience in collecting venous blood specimen
(venipuncture), Laboratory investigation, etc.,
(ii). Knowledge of Computer Application
Project Technical Officer (Lab) Essential Qualification
Graduate in Microbiology / Virology / Medical Lab Technology
from a recognized university with 5 years working experience from a recognized Research Institution.

Master’s degree in Microbiology / Virology / Medical Lab Technology from a recognized university.
Desirable qualification
1.Experience in preparing Laboratory SOPs related to blood collection, processing, testing, storage, and transportation
2.Experience in handling biological samples, processing, testing and analysis.
3.Any Survey / Field experience in quality assurance of biological
sample collection and testing.
Project Semi Skilled Worker Essential Qualification 10th Pass/ High School or Equivalent
Desirable Qualification and Experience
Experience in working in field-based health research surveys
Experience in assisting field sample collection, washing of glassware/general cleaning of laboratory equipment, maintenance of lab cleanliness and study related equipment
Proficiency in Tamil
Minimum Monthly Remuneration
- Project Scientist – B (Medical) Remuneration Rs.61,000/- plus HRA per month
- Project Staff Nurse Remuneration Rs.31,500/- Per month
- Project Assistant (Field Investigator) Remuneration Rs.31,000/-
- Project Technician III (Lab) Remuneration Rs.18,000 /- Per month
- Project Technical Officer (Lab) Remuneration Rs.32,000/- Per month
- Project Semi Skilled Worker Remuneration Rs.15,800/- Per month
