Defence Scientific Information and Documentation Centre (DESIDOC) started functioning in 1958 as Scientific Information Bureau (SIB), as a division of the Defence Science Laboratory (DSL), which is now known as Laser Science & Technology Centre (LASTEC). On May 4, 1967, the SIB was named as Defence Scientific Information and Documentation Centre (DESIDOC) under the administrative control of DSL. It became a self-accounting establishment of DRDO on 29 July 1970 and started functioning as a central information resource centre for DRDO. The Centre was functioning in the main building of Metcalfe House, a landmark in Delhi and a national monument. In August 1988, it moved to its newly built five-storeyed building in the same Metcalfe House complex. Since it became a self-accounting unit, DESIDOC provides S&T information, based on its library and other information resources, to the DRDO headquarters, and DRDO laboratories all over India.

Defence Scientific Information & Documentation Centre Metcalfe House, Delhi-110054 Application for Engagement of Apprentices (under Apprentice Act 1961) for one year Defence Scientific Information & Documentation Centre (DESIDOC) under the aegis of Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), engages apprentices under the Apprentices Act.1961 purely for ONE YEAR apprenticeship training for the Financial Year 2024-2025. - The candidates claiming reservation under SC/ST/OBC category certificate has to be submitting as per central government format, failing which their claim for reservation will be considered as ‘General’ category only.

- Selection Procedure and Criteria: Candidates will be selected on interview basis after shortlisted on the merit basis (percentage/marks of essential qualification).
- Board constituted by the Director DESIDOC for the purpose will go through the applications, and shortlist the candidates (as per the vacancies indicated above) as per selection criteria.
- Only Selected candidates will be informed through offer letter.
- Candidates who have already undergone apprenticeship training in any institute/organization are not eligible and only those who have passed out in 2022 and 2023 are only eligible. A certificate in this regard may be furnished. It may be explicitly understood that subsequent to the training period. DRDO shall not offer any employment in the organisation.
