Anna University was established on 4th September, 1978 as a unitary type of University. This University was named after Late Dr.C.N.Annadurai, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. It offers higher education in Engineering, Technology, Architecture and Applied Sciences relevant to the current and projected needs of the society. Besides promoting research and disseminating knowledge gained therefrom, it fosters cooperation between the academic and industrial communities.
The University was formed by bringing together and integrating four well known technical institutions in the city of Madras (now Chennai) namely,

Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) (Established in 1949)

After completion of 2 years as a CRS Project Fellow (Junior) –I
at least one research paper in a reputed SCI journal
assessment of the student by a 3 member expert committee approved by the Centre-Director
CRS Project Fellow(Junior) – II
M.Sc. (not earlier than 3 years) with a minimum of 55% marks in Physics.
valid (a) National Eligibility Tests – CSIR-UGC NET including
lectureship (Assistant Professor) or GATE or (b) A selection process
through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Department and their Agencies and Institutions.
Ph.D. registration of the student under the supervision of the PI at the University where PI’s institute is affiliated
CRS Project Fellow(Senior)-II After completion of 2 years as a CRS Project Fellow (Junior)-II + at least one research paper in a reputed SCI journal + assessment of the student by a 3 member expert committee approved by the Centre-Director
Minimum Monthly Remuneration
- CRS Project Fellow(Junior) -I Remuneration 14,000 + HRA
- CRS Project Fellow(Senior)-I Remuneration 16,000 + HRA
- CRS Project Fellow(Junior) – II Remuneration 31,000 + HRA
- CRS Project Fellow(Senior)-II Remuneration 35,000 + HRA
